Calamity and death run rampant at the hands of the red plague
Claiming victims in masses, dying horrible, gruesome deaths
Locked away behind sealed doors, you imagine yourself safe
To wait it out and let them die out there beyond the gate
And so assured are you, that a celebration you have thrown
But there is an uninvited guest
Costumed as a victim, but no person beneath it
The plague came calling for you tonight

The Premature Burial
04:10
|

Portraying duty in the eye of those observing
Secrets concealed, hidden in the dark
The depth of punishment recieved, they believed she died
And she was delivered from her grave by her secret
The weight of the earth
Pressing in all around you
Panic grips your mind
Interred while still alive
Serving god and country, thrown to the ground
A broken skull, thought to be perished
But there was still a life, alive underground some time
Exhumed at last from the sound of the scratching

The Tell-tale Heart
04:26
|

Senses made to acute by virtue of disease
I've been watching these past seven nights
To see the evil eye
Though no wrong doing was percieved
There is murder in my heart
And the old man must die
So precise in calculation must his execution be
For so well planned and well thought out, I cannot be insane
I must watch him every night to try and see the eye
The moment must be perfect
The last night I saw the evil eye
A single thin ray of light shone upon it
I knew my time to strike, in that moment
He shrieked once before he never spoke again
Methodically and carefully he was dismembered
I cleaned the pieces of the corpse before their interment
Under the floor boards shall be his final resting place
Out of sight and out of mind
But in the dark I can still hear his heart
Under the floor, yet I can hear it beating
The ringing in my ears, growing ever louder
Can they hear it? Can they?

Such a singular request to be asked
To bend the laws of nature to see what lies beyond
Ethics and morals be damned, I want to know
Summoned with urgency, he had tarried to long
Dying of consumption, the subject agreed to the test
To mesmerize a man on the brink of death
To gain an insight, on what happens after life
To see beyond the vale which we live behind
Entranced, and dead, he answered questions
He begged to be awoken or left to sleep
In the pursuit of knowledge, my haste led me astray
I was not prepared to see a dead man speak
He begged us over and over to let him be
Only longing to return to eternal sleep
He become uncooperative after only a few minutes
He would only shout "Dead! Dead! Dead!"
I released him from the trance and he fell silent
His body disolved into foul smelling sludge immediately after

The road to hell is paved with good intentions
Such foolish hubris to take the waters for granted
What began out there in the sea
They could've never known, they could never
Dragged down
Into a vortex
Dragged down
There is no escape
The ocean opened up
Into a hungry maw
There was no running away
The currents were too strong
One was pulled away by the rushing sea
One was driven mad by the spectacle
The one who survived was aged beyond his years
Doomed to live a stunted life

For one so cultered
I find you abhorrant
For one so arrogant
I conspire to decieve
Something to pique your interest
Of high quality
I devise a plan to lead you away from eyes
And so at my direction we descend into the catacombs
Down ancient corridors, littered with bones
Greed has blinded your drunken mind
You insist we press forward
We have gone far deeper than anyone goes
I give you a drink of wine, to quench your thirst
In your intoxication, you never had a chance
I slip the chains around and lock them
Much to your disbelief
And now you're laughing! You think this is a jest!
Believing it to be some ruse, meant for amusement
I slowly uncover the bricks and mortar I'd hidden
And begin building the wall that will be your tomb
The wall is rising, and still you don't believe
I seal the top to the sound of your laughter

The Pit and the Pendulum
05:56
|

What is this horror
I have awoke in darkness
Now a denison of this awful dungeon
I creep forward
To try to get my bearings
Only by briefest light do I avoid the pit
And when I awoke I was bound to the floor
Prone and helpless to what lay ahead
And then I became aware from up above
There descended a swinging blade, inches at a time
And then to my disgust, the rats came for me
Climbing out of the pit, here for my flesh
They chewed through the bonds the held me
And I rolled free of the blade
I had angered my captors and the walls began to glow
Not stone at all, some kind of metal
The walls began to move, pushing me toward the pit

The Black Cat
05:30
|
|||
A dreary life accented by the whispers
The fingers along the mind, echoing intentions
A falseness to everything building up into violence
Unforeseen consequences feeding dark dementia
And so I take the knife
And carve out one if it’s eyes
In the throes of evil, I can’t trust my surroundings
The madness echoes, I cannot trust myself
Horrible acts, blood on my hands, what have I done
They’re calling through the floor, calling for my blood
And still no rest for me, the paranoia deafens
Infecting every aspect of me, the cat is long since dead
My wife is suspicious, and so I come to her conclusion
Buried under the house to hide such shameful acts
And they come to ask questions
Can they hear the howling?
In the throes of evil, I can’t trust my surroundings
The madness echoes, I cannot trust myself
Horrible acts, blood on my hands, what have I done
They’re calling through the floor, calling for my blood

The Oval Portrait
04:55
|
|||
Seeking shelter and a place to rest
We came upon the old chateau
It was the dead of night
My injuries so severe, we needed a place to hide
Upon the morning
I discovered
The walls covered in art of highest quality
And in the corner
At first escaping my eye
Hung the finest of all
A stunning portrait
Of a young woman
Displayed inside an oval frame
Such amazing detail
Conveying the very essence
Her eyes sad and face pale
The artist in question
Was well renowned
His work shone with purest brilliance
People thought him blessed, such talent he possessed
But his talents would curse him
He seemed to create life
Displayed upon the canvas
But his greatest work was yet come
He would paint his young wife
To share her beauty
It was to be his finest piece yet
A stunning portrait
Of a young woman
Displayed inside an oval frame
Such amazing detail
Conveying the very essence
Her eyes sad and face pale
He worked and worked
To see his masterpiece complete
And all the while his wife sat to pose
Slowly fading, she faithfully remained
But when it was complete, she had died

A manor once so beautiful
Now the cracks do show
Illness marks the degredation
Slow perversion into madness
Here inside this dark house
Live only two
And though attempts are made
To bring in light, the dark still looms
And though believed to be dead
A spector returns in a rage
She brought death was with her that night
And her brother died in horror
